More Percy Jackson!

Since my last post, I have been reading the rest of the series from Percy Jackson and The Olympians. I just can't get enough of them. After reading The Lightening Thief and loving it I went on to book number two: Percy Jackson and the Olympians The Sea of Monsters.

Again, I learned alot about greek mythology monsters. With my Kindle I can put my cursor over the monsters name and learn more about it in the dictionary. I like the introduction of Tyson. He is one of my favorite characters. Along with Percy, Annabeth and Grover. The book starts out with Percy proud that he almost got through a whole year of school without any trouble until the dodgeball game with monsters! He finds out his best friend at school Tyson, just happens to be a cylops. Then together with Annabeth the three of them go on a quest to find Grover who happens to be with the one thing that can save camp-half blood, the golden fleece. They go on there adventures and it is page-turning fun!

After The Sea of Monsters I went straight into the third book The Titan's Curse. In this book we get introduced to the hunters. Along with Bianca and Nico Di Angelo. Also, we get to know Thalia better, the daughter of Zeus. Who at the end of book 2 gets transformed from a tree that she was trapped in for 7 years to human form again. Persy quest this time is to rescue one of his best friends Annabeth who was thrown off a cliff with a monster. Also, to save Artemis. With Kronos army getting bigger and the more monsters forming Persy adventures are entertaining.

I am now in book four The Battle of the Labyrith and I am loving that one as well. I am about 60% done. Kronos army has found a possible way into Camp Half blood to destroy it, a opening from the Labyrith right in Camp Half Blood. If the Kronos army can figure out a way to navigate through the Labyrith they will have a huge advantage. Annabeth quest is to stop this advantage. With Persy, Tyson and Grover the four of them set foot in the Labyrith to make sure the Monster don't win. But will they be able to stop the army in time? I am half way through to knowing!

the lightning thief

I was in the movie theater, watching trailers and the trailer came up for The Lightning Thief. I remember seeing that book on Amazon and the trailer looked good so I thought I would read the book before the movie came out. It has great ratings on Amazon, and I agree the book was really good.

I really enjoyed reading Persy Jacksons adventures. I even learned some new Gods and Goddess that I have never heard before while reading this book. I now can't wait for the movie to come out in February 2010. Although, after watching the trailers it doesn't look like it is going to be really close to the book.

The book is about a kid name Persy who finds out he is a son of a God when monsters start to attack and he has to find santuary at Camp Half Blood. He meets a new friend there Annabeth along with his old friend Glover, who is a Satyr. Together the three go on a quest which they run into a ton of monsters on the way.

Great book, really enjoyed it...now I have to figure out which one is the next in the series so I can start reading it!

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley was a great book! Took me forever to read it though but not because it was a bad book but because I had other books come out while I was reading this one that I just had to read.

Flavia the main character loves chemistry. She is only 11 but she knows a lot! The metaphors and smilies that are in Flavia's head are very funny!

Flavia is trying to solve a mystery. A mystery of a man who died in the garden. In the process of solving the mystery Flavia stumbles upon her father's past and learns a little bit more about him. But during the mystery Flavia still has time to play tricks on her mean sisters.

It is a great and entertaining book. And I can't wait to read the next Flavia mystery The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag.

Feddie Girl

So, like this book was like so totally lame. Annoying right? That is how the main characters inner thoughts were throughout the entire book. While reading Feddie Girl, I didn't know if I was reading a Adult Romance novel or a Young Adult book. There were two stories going on and neither of them worked together.

The back of the Feddie Girl states "Nona David takes carlotta's story a step further when her adventures lead to unfortunate incidents that threaten to drive her American family into the clucthes of infidelity and organized crime....uh, no what was going on with Carlotta in her Nigerian boarding school had nothing to do with the infidelity and organized crime.

Going into the organized crime it was just placed in front of us with no rhyme or reason. It was just the father had a birth right into. No back story no reason why, no explanation of what his birth right was just that it was. The father annoyed me and so did the mother I could of done without any of that, it had no part in Carlotta story it was just unnessary drama that the author added probably to add some spark to the novel, but without piecing in the parts correctly.

Carlotta seems like a good girl expect for the part that lands her into a Nigerian boarding school. Lets gets this straight, she listens to Hannah montana, High school music and watches Harry Potter at the same time as she is beating up 6 year olds and smoking? Doesn't really look like it goes together. Then she is doing plays for school and skits for the girls and being all nice and friendly.

I also had a hard time with the Nigerian girls dialogue. Most of it didn't make sense. And what was it with all the "Oh!" in places that didn't sound right? If you are going to put in words that are Nigerian at least put in a glossary. Talking about dialogue, anytime Carlotta had an inner thought it was never without totally. Totally totally totally? Have any new words? Like totally no.

And, the end...Carlotta just happens to buy a ticket all on her own at 13, imagine that!

If it was just Carlotta story, and she didn't say totally so many times I think I would have enjoyed it more. But, there was too many things going on that didn't connect, didn't make sense or just shouldn't have been there. It was hard to really enjoy this book.

The Lost Symbol

First off when I first started this book I thought it was amazing, and I was telling everyone to read it because ever chapter was suspenseful. And it drove me crazy that he would end the chapter hanging with this one character and then the next chapter was something entirely different with another character and you had to keep reading until it left you hanging there and then told you want happened to the first character. It was great! I even bought the hard back version for my boyfriend since I was reading it on my kindle.

The book was great, until it got to the end where they seemed to tie up all the ends and I thought it would end but chapters kept coming and coming. And I actually started to get bored of the book as it explained more and more that I didn't think really needed to be there. And I kept wondering, is this the last chapter? I think some of the last chapters didn't need to be there. It kind of bored me. But all in all the book was fantastic. I like how Dan Brown writes and how I am always running to the internet to research some of what he wrote to see if it really is true or not. It is great. I recommend this book to anyone.

Cleopatra's Daughter

Michelle Moran, the author, did a wonderful job portraying the life of Selene and Alexandra. I could not even put the book down it was that good! At the end of the book Michelle Moran states that she tried to portray the all real events that happened during that time. Of course, you cannot exactly know what happened during the life of Selene but this book was excellent! After reading the life of Selene it has fascinated me to learn more about this era.

Michelle Moran's first book about Nefertiti made me want to go to Egypt and this one makes me want to see Rome!

You really get a feel for the characters and are hoping right along with Selene that things go her way. I really enjoyed the ending and seeing who the Red Eagle really was. I also enjoyed learning the words that they used in Rome and the festivities that they did.

I can't wait to read Michelle Moran next book! Hope it comes out soon :)

Update

I was starting to read The Sweetness at the bottom of the pie. I actually started it before reading Catching Fire but because that came out I had to put The Sweetness at the bottom of the pie on the back burner. Then after reading Catching Fire I began to read it again. I am glad I am reading it on my Kindle because there are a lot of words that I just don't know in that book. It is a bit hard to get into. I just put it back on the back burner again for Cleopatra's Daughter and after that I will probably jump right into Dan Brown's new book The Lost Symbol. Oh! will I ever finish The Sweetness at the bottom of the pie?

Catching Fire

Every single chapter makes you wanting to read more. The chapters end very suspenseful so you cannot just stop at the end of the chapter because you are wanting more.

It was a very very good book, the end left me thirsty for more. There were so many questions that were left unanswered at the end of the book that I want to read the third one now!

This book starts off after the hunger games with Katniss about ready to go on her district tour. She learns things about the district on this tour. Katniss gets in so much trouble with the capitol. It seems like she is always stuck between a rock and a hard spot with so many things...with the capitol, with peeta and gale.

I hope the next book comes out pretty quick...but I know I will probably have to wait a whole year to read the final book!

Hush Hush

This weekend, I finished the ARC book I am reading for Barnes and Noble called Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.

At first, I didn't think I was going to like it because it reminded me a lot of twilight. Like them meeting in biology and she is getting this vibes off of him and he is being all mysterious. But, then it takes another turn and starts to differ from Twilight and I really began to like.

The book is narrated by Nora Grey. Just your average 10th grader but then one day the seating arrangement changes in biology. Instead of sitting by her best friend Vee she is stuck with Patch and that is when her life began to change. Patch is very mysterious and has a dark past. After Nora meets Patch she begins to see things she can't explain and things began to happen to her...like a guy in a black ski mask.

The end is really good and I do hope there is another one. I really like the character of Nora Grey, and I like Patch. Patch is supposed to be a bad guy, but the things he does make you wonder is he really good or bad? Nora best friend Vee Sky, I didn't like her character very much.

At the beginning of the book I had a lot of questions, but they were pleasantly answered at the end. The ending didn't leave any loose ends for me and I really enjoyed it.

The Hunger Games

I just love this book! It is the second time around reading it. I really enjoy reading about the character Katniss. The way it is wrote you really feel for the character and root her on throughout the whole book.

Hunger games is about a place called Panem, which is where North America was. Panem has a capitol and twelve districts. The capitol is in charged of the districts and shows there power by having the hunger games. It is a punishment for the uprising of the districts in the past. They take two children and boy and a girl from each districts and imprison them in a arena for them to fight the death until one is remaining.

It does sound awful, and it is. The story is told by Katniss one the the children who is picked for the Hunger games. The hardest part for me to read is about her friendship with another competitor name Rue. The story is sad but you never want to stop reading.

At the end of the book I was wanting more. And the worst part about it, is it ended with the words "End of Book One" and the next book doesn't come out until another year. But, this second time around I only have to wait a week before Catching fire comes out. I can't wait for it to come out Sept 1st

The next book

The next book, I have actually started reading, is The Hunger Games. The second book of this trilogy from Suzanne Collins is coming out on September 1st. So, now it is time for me to re-read the Hunger Games. And, since I just started this blog I can blog a review when I am finished. :)

I can't wait to reread it, I really enjoyed it the first time. And, I can't wait for the 2nd book, Catching Fire to come out on September 1st. I heard really good reviews about it already.

The Girl who Played with Fire

I just got done reading The Girl Who Played With Fire on my Kindle, and all I can say is...I can't wait for the next one!

At the end it leaves you hanging and you are asking yourself, what happens next? Now I need to figure out when the next one come out so I can read it.

Stieg Larsson, the author, goes in to great detail when he is writing. Almost too much detail. He goes in depth about the characters everyday life. Right down to what they get at the store. The whole book kept my attention though.

I would usually read this book during my lunch break and be hesitant to stop reading when my lunch break was over. I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. Lisbeth Salander gets into one situation after another and get the little amount of friends she does have into trouble as well. After a couple gets murdered everything is turned upside down for Lisbeth. And her and Blomkvist have to fight to figure out what the answers are.

There are a couple of twist during the book that just leaves you thinking. And, I couldn't figure out the twists until they explained it out for me. It was a really good book. It is great how when reading something is already told to the reader but other charcters do not know and you get to see what other charcters are thinking what it might be when you already know.

Steig Larsson is a great author and I can't wait to read the next book in the Lisbeth Salander Trilogy.

Ready for September!

There are a couple of books I am really interested in for September, which just happens to be my birthday month.

1. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - September 1st
This is the sequel to the Hunger Games

2. Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran - September 15th
I was lucky enough to receive a galley copy of Michelle Moran 2nd book The Heretic Queen which I absolutely loved and when I was done with that book I went out and bought her first book Nefertiti which was also very good. So, I can't wait for her 3rd book

3. Lost Symbol by Dan Brown - September 15th
I loved DaVinci Code and Angels and Demon both the books and the movies. I also like Dan Brown's Digital Fortress. Even though Lost Symbol is suppose to be the third book in the trilogy with DaVinci code and Angels and Demons. I need to find a copy of those two books to read again before Lost Symbols comes out...it has been so long!

Book I am reading at the moment...

I have just started reading The girl who played with Fire. Earlier this year I read The girl with the dragon tattoo, this is the sequel to it. Started July 30th.

A Great and Terrible Beauty - Trilogy

I began reading A Great and Terrible Beauty during my camping trip this June. For some reason, I am really into Young Adult books right now. And, this trilogy was the next on my list to read.

The book is about a girl name Gemma who lives in India with her parents. She desperately wants to go to London. Soon after, she recieves a very vivid dream of her mother dying, in which comes true also bringing her dream to go to London alive as well.

Gemma arrives in London and is sent to an all girl school called Spence. She is supposed to learn how to become a good wife but end up finding out about the magic she holds.

The book is unlike any other book I have read. Gemma has this powers that gives her visions and she has the ability to open a portal to another realm. With her and her friends Ann, pippa and Felicity she explores the realms and her magic and soon finds an arch rival Circe.

Rebel Angels during Christmas. Gemma learns more about her magic. And in a way I enjoyed Rebel Angels better than the first book. There was more adventure. In this one she has already defeated Circe (so she thinks) and is trying to bind the magic to the realms. All the magic is in her. She has hardships with her friend pippa who the previous book ate the berries in the realms and was stuck in the realms forever. She also has her feelings for Kartik.

In the end, I believe a The Sweet Far Thing might have been my favorite. With the battle scenes, Pippa and her followers and her relationship with Katrik evolving. It was an all around good book :)

New Book Blog

I have been reading a lot of books lately, now that I have my kindle. So, I thought what would be better than a place to review all the books I have read. Maybe, hopefully I can help people figure out what book to read in the long run :)
