the lightning thief

I was in the movie theater, watching trailers and the trailer came up for The Lightning Thief. I remember seeing that book on Amazon and the trailer looked good so I thought I would read the book before the movie came out. It has great ratings on Amazon, and I agree the book was really good.

I really enjoyed reading Persy Jacksons adventures. I even learned some new Gods and Goddess that I have never heard before while reading this book. I now can't wait for the movie to come out in February 2010. Although, after watching the trailers it doesn't look like it is going to be really close to the book.

The book is about a kid name Persy who finds out he is a son of a God when monsters start to attack and he has to find santuary at Camp Half Blood. He meets a new friend there Annabeth along with his old friend Glover, who is a Satyr. Together the three go on a quest which they run into a ton of monsters on the way.

Great book, really enjoyed it...now I have to figure out which one is the next in the series so I can start reading it!

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley was a great book! Took me forever to read it though but not because it was a bad book but because I had other books come out while I was reading this one that I just had to read.

Flavia the main character loves chemistry. She is only 11 but she knows a lot! The metaphors and smilies that are in Flavia's head are very funny!

Flavia is trying to solve a mystery. A mystery of a man who died in the garden. In the process of solving the mystery Flavia stumbles upon her father's past and learns a little bit more about him. But during the mystery Flavia still has time to play tricks on her mean sisters.

It is a great and entertaining book. And I can't wait to read the next Flavia mystery The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag.

Feddie Girl

So, like this book was like so totally lame. Annoying right? That is how the main characters inner thoughts were throughout the entire book. While reading Feddie Girl, I didn't know if I was reading a Adult Romance novel or a Young Adult book. There were two stories going on and neither of them worked together.

The back of the Feddie Girl states "Nona David takes carlotta's story a step further when her adventures lead to unfortunate incidents that threaten to drive her American family into the clucthes of infidelity and organized crime....uh, no what was going on with Carlotta in her Nigerian boarding school had nothing to do with the infidelity and organized crime.

Going into the organized crime it was just placed in front of us with no rhyme or reason. It was just the father had a birth right into. No back story no reason why, no explanation of what his birth right was just that it was. The father annoyed me and so did the mother I could of done without any of that, it had no part in Carlotta story it was just unnessary drama that the author added probably to add some spark to the novel, but without piecing in the parts correctly.

Carlotta seems like a good girl expect for the part that lands her into a Nigerian boarding school. Lets gets this straight, she listens to Hannah montana, High school music and watches Harry Potter at the same time as she is beating up 6 year olds and smoking? Doesn't really look like it goes together. Then she is doing plays for school and skits for the girls and being all nice and friendly.

I also had a hard time with the Nigerian girls dialogue. Most of it didn't make sense. And what was it with all the "Oh!" in places that didn't sound right? If you are going to put in words that are Nigerian at least put in a glossary. Talking about dialogue, anytime Carlotta had an inner thought it was never without totally. Totally totally totally? Have any new words? Like totally no.

And, the end...Carlotta just happens to buy a ticket all on her own at 13, imagine that!

If it was just Carlotta story, and she didn't say totally so many times I think I would have enjoyed it more. But, there was too many things going on that didn't connect, didn't make sense or just shouldn't have been there. It was hard to really enjoy this book.

The Lost Symbol

First off when I first started this book I thought it was amazing, and I was telling everyone to read it because ever chapter was suspenseful. And it drove me crazy that he would end the chapter hanging with this one character and then the next chapter was something entirely different with another character and you had to keep reading until it left you hanging there and then told you want happened to the first character. It was great! I even bought the hard back version for my boyfriend since I was reading it on my kindle.

The book was great, until it got to the end where they seemed to tie up all the ends and I thought it would end but chapters kept coming and coming. And I actually started to get bored of the book as it explained more and more that I didn't think really needed to be there. And I kept wondering, is this the last chapter? I think some of the last chapters didn't need to be there. It kind of bored me. But all in all the book was fantastic. I like how Dan Brown writes and how I am always running to the internet to research some of what he wrote to see if it really is true or not. It is great. I recommend this book to anyone.

Cleopatra's Daughter

Michelle Moran, the author, did a wonderful job portraying the life of Selene and Alexandra. I could not even put the book down it was that good! At the end of the book Michelle Moran states that she tried to portray the all real events that happened during that time. Of course, you cannot exactly know what happened during the life of Selene but this book was excellent! After reading the life of Selene it has fascinated me to learn more about this era.

Michelle Moran's first book about Nefertiti made me want to go to Egypt and this one makes me want to see Rome!

You really get a feel for the characters and are hoping right along with Selene that things go her way. I really enjoyed the ending and seeing who the Red Eagle really was. I also enjoyed learning the words that they used in Rome and the festivities that they did.

I can't wait to read Michelle Moran next book! Hope it comes out soon :)

Update

I was starting to read The Sweetness at the bottom of the pie. I actually started it before reading Catching Fire but because that came out I had to put The Sweetness at the bottom of the pie on the back burner. Then after reading Catching Fire I began to read it again. I am glad I am reading it on my Kindle because there are a lot of words that I just don't know in that book. It is a bit hard to get into. I just put it back on the back burner again for Cleopatra's Daughter and after that I will probably jump right into Dan Brown's new book The Lost Symbol. Oh! will I ever finish The Sweetness at the bottom of the pie?

Catching Fire

Every single chapter makes you wanting to read more. The chapters end very suspenseful so you cannot just stop at the end of the chapter because you are wanting more.

It was a very very good book, the end left me thirsty for more. There were so many questions that were left unanswered at the end of the book that I want to read the third one now!

This book starts off after the hunger games with Katniss about ready to go on her district tour. She learns things about the district on this tour. Katniss gets in so much trouble with the capitol. It seems like she is always stuck between a rock and a hard spot with so many things...with the capitol, with peeta and gale.

I hope the next book comes out pretty quick...but I know I will probably have to wait a whole year to read the final book!
